Sound-Ventilation-Tonus-Therapy – The main treatment goal of KVT therapy is a change in function, which must be enforced against long-standing habits and muscular dysfunctions. Symptoms can sometimes be influenced by medication, for example, without eliminating the cause. The aim of KVT therapy, on the other hand, is to identify and treat the causes.
KVT Therapy
Three main areas of influence characterize the treatment:
Sounds
Influencing peripheral and central acoustic functions as well as persistent phantom noises (tinnitus) by using sound spectra that are individually adapted to the patient’s hearing performance (AMK = acupedagogy with sounds according to Berndsen/Berndsen). To stabilize the skills achieved, a CD was created to be listened to at home during the habituation and automation phase. All that is needed is a conventional CD player and high-quality, closed headphones.
Ventilation
Application of a targeted neurophysiological exercise program to influence the functional ventilation in the middle ear and the opening function of the Eustachian tube, as well as to automate physiological breathing functions, lip, tongue and palate activity. The aim is to optimize the ventilation mechanism in the middle ear, in the paranasal sinuses and to optimize the “blood-oxygen supply” in the entire organism.
Tonus
Influencing the functions of specific muscles of the body, especially the head-balancing muscles, the facial, swallowing and chewing muscles, dental occlusion and temporomandibular joint function through kinetic-corrective treatment, which was developed at the ISST for this functional circuit and is individualized and adapted for each patient based on diagnostic data.
Goal of the therapy
The main aim of the treatment is to achieve a functional change, which must be enforced against long-standing habits and muscular dysfunctions. To achieve this, regular corrective applications over longer periods of time are essential. Symptoms can sometimes be influenced spontaneously, e.g. by a medication. However, this does not eliminate the cause and the health problems often return soon. Such negative experiences lead to increasing suffering and hopelessness and it is not uncommon for further symptoms of illness to appear for psychological reasons.
The aim of KVT therapy is to identify the causes and treat them. The actual disorder should be eliminated if possible, or at least significantly improved. The functional maldevelopments addressed by KVT therapy have built up in the patient over many years, often since childhood. The fact that long-term, continuously reinforcing maldevelopments can never be corrected in the short term is logical and does not need to be discussed further. KVT therapy therefore requires longer periods of time to achieve goals (approx. 3-12 months). However, this does not mean that the patient can only experience an improvement after this time. Most patients report positive changes after the first few weeks. The feeling of being able to exert a positive influence on the stressful disorder gives patients the motivation and strength to persevere with the treatment for several months. The daily effort for the patient is kept to a minimum (approx. 3 times a day for 7-10 minutes).
In the case of inflammatory processes, anti-inflammatory medication must be administered before or during KVT therapy!
