The AMK therapy developed at ISST expands restricted or blocked acoustic patterns and initiates auditory pattern formation. The influence on the acoustic system causes far-reaching activation processes in the brain. In addition to other positive effects, AMK can achieve objectively measurable hearing improvements that enable many patients to do without a hearing aid.
AMK – Acupaedics with sounds (Akupädie mit Klängen)
AMK therapy according to Berndsen/Berndsen expands the restricted or blocked acoustic patterns or initiates pattern formation in people with auditory impairments. In addition, the influence on the acoustic system causes far-reaching activation processes in the central nervous system (brain).
Objectively measurable hearing improvements can be achieved with AMK. Numerous patients do not use their hearing aids after treatment or do not need to be fitted with hearing aids because they feel that their hearing performance has improved significantly and is adequate.
Various studies have shown other positive effects: Increased attention, concentration and performance of the patients. The AMK also had an effective effect on the speech development and muscle tension of disabled children. Positive changes were seen in high blood pressure and tinnitus (in the case of tinnitus, AMK complements KVT therapy). Autistic and hyperactive children take part in AMK in order to influence perceptual performance and behavioral patterns and thus positively influence their overall development.
Differences to Tomatis therapy
The inclusion of the mother’s voice in the sound spectrum (common in Tomatis therapy) is expressly dispensed with in AMK therapy, as studies carried out with a large number of patients have shown no differences to the exclusive sound spectrum. However, the mother’s voice can easily be included in the sound spectrum at the patient’s request.
Further differences to Tomatis therapy lie in the constant shifting of the sound spectrum in particularly hearing-active frequency ranges of the patient and in the optimally tuned and processed sound spectrum with extremely low noise components.
Patent granted
The developers of AMK, Dr. Klaus and Sabine Berndsen, were granted a patent for this method in connection with a new hearing aid technology.
