Press and publications
Numerous publications in newspapers and magazines have documented the successful work at ISST and the innovative therapies and products developed there for well over 30 years.
The FaceFormer – a muck gym for the face
Fitness training for the facial muscles really does exist. The ‘mucki gym’ for the face fits in every handbag, you can train anytime and anywhere and the fitness training is also affordable. This fitness device is called FaceFormer and was developed by Sabine and Klaus Berndsen.
Train in the car for rest in a double bed
An innovative device, the Face Former, developed by Klaus-Jürgen and Sabine Berndsen from Unna, offers a simple solution to snoring and breathing problems. Through targeted training of the mouth muscles, it strengthens the airways and effectively reduces discomfort.
Breastfeeding and soother use as a cause of snoring and nocturnal breathing interruptions
Relaxation of muscles and tissue in the mouth and throat is generally recognised as the main cause of snoring and nocturnal breathing interruptions. However, there is no differentiated information on the causes of this in the relevant specialist literature.
Breastfeeding prevents snoring
Babies who are breastfed are significantly less prone to snoring later on than ‘bottle-fed children’. This was discovered by researchers from Unna.
Peace and quiet in the bedroom at last
Spouses who have been deprived of sleep have had to wait a long time for these extra lessons. Unna's sleep and, above all, snoring researcher Dr Klaus Jürgen Berndsen is opening his anti-snoring school on Wasserstrasse on 20 October. The phrase ‘Good night then’ finally has a positive ring to it.
Snorers: Most never breastfed
Breastfeeding and snoring are apparently causally linked. Sleep researchers Klaus-Jürgen and Sabine Berndsen are convinced of this.
Snorer on the school desk
‘A snorer in the audience is priceless, because he prevents the other theatre-goers from falling asleep.’ Martina Nicolai and Wilfried Kümper can't laugh at all at this theatre wisdom. Snoring is torture for them. From now on, they will train together for a silent night.
Support and research
Promotion and research - Dr Klaus-Jürgen Berndsen is committed to these two challenges. Together with his wife Sabine, the doctor runs the Institute for Speech and Voice Therapy (ISST) in Unna. One of the main focuses of their speech therapy practice is the treatment of people with severe and profound disabilities.
Ways out of snoring hell
Anyone who snores regularly and even stops breathing is at risk of serious damage to their health. In addition to a visit to the sleep laboratory, an endoscopic examination by an ENT specialist is advisable. Good treatment options can then be developed.
Movement begins in the mind
Jonas is already eight years old, but the disabled boy can only eat and drink with help from others. Therapists are now trying to release a blockage in his brain.
Trapped in your own body
If you tell Jonas that he will probably be able to eat on his own in just under a month, he certainly won't even be able to understand it. After all, the eight-year-old is not even able to move his hand to his plate, his arm to his head and his spoon to his mouth.
No wonder, but a wonderful therapy success for everyone
As if it were a miracle. But it is craft and treatment. Nevertheless, it is wonderful for everyone involved, especially for Jonas, who was able to eat a piece of apple and drink a sip of tea for the first time at the age of eight.
